Colours we underestimate

Updated: Apr 10

The most underestimated colours - Violet, Naples Yellow, Veridian Green & Paynes Grey. These are my staple colours, which not only assist to get depth into oil paintings but also allow the Artist to create shadows and highlights with the absence of harsh tones such as black. Of course black can be used, but at times it's much more favourable to use these tones to achieve softer and more blended finishes. The beauty of these colours is they can be mixed with your personal palette to create a versatile range of lighter and darker shades.
