Please enjoy some interesting and fun facts about this piece and it's history below...
⚜️“SFUMATO” technique - 10 layers were incorporated into the face using my hands to blend the oil paint and build up soft, diffused features. Fun fact: Leonardo Da Vinci applied 20-40 layers onto the original Mona Lisa, including the use of his hands. * this technique means to vanish/evaporate and create subtle transitions between light and dark, while the background fades into the distance.
⚜️ “Mona Lisa Smile Theory” - It is said that if one stares at the Mona Lisa’s lips, her smile starts to fade.. and if one looks at her eyes, the smile on her lips increases; making her eyes also appear to be smiling. *This illusion can be experienced through my piece, in person.
⚜️ “Mona Lisa Effect” - the perception that the subject of an image is always looking directly at you, no matter where you stand. Many believed this was the case with the original Mona Lisa.. it turns out after significant German research, that this is a MYTH and she is in fact only gazing to the right hand side. However, there is still an illusion that she is staring straight at you. *This illusion can be experienced through my piece, in person.
** Most of this piece was painted based on intuition.. when the brushes weren’t cutting it, the SFUMATO technique was used and I really enjoyed getting loads of paint onto my hands.. it helped me to interact and get to know my subject.
